Kruitfabriek Muiden

Zecc has won the selection for Albert Heijn De Krijgsman and 35 apartments on the former site of the gunpowder factory in Muiden. De Kruitfabriek marks the entrance of a new living and working area with 1,300 homes in a green setting along the IJmeer. The building is located next to the former Ketelhuis in the subarea De Fabriek where several facilities will be located. Together with several historic buildings it forms an important meeting place by the market square. To enhance the quality of this place, functions such as parking, storage and provisioning are solved within the building volume.

The building is all-sided with a recognizable square, street and end façade. Classic elements have been used as inspiration for the modern industrial architecture of brick and steel. The facades are transparent, light and open to the square. A brickwork plinth was chosen with a grid of steel above it within which the residential program is located. The entire ground floor is occupied by the Albert Heijn supermarket. The semi-underground parking basin houses 50 parking spaces and all storage areas.

The apartments are located on the first through the third floors around a courtyard and are accessed by a circular gallery. The three- and four-room apartments vary in size between 75 and 110 m². The aim is to position the residential function on the exterior facade as much as possible so that the residents can take maximum advantage of the green and partly historic surroundings.
